Frequently Asked Questions

Who can use this site?

This site is for solving crosswords and writing blogs in support of the www.fifteensquared.net website. To use this site you will need a username and password for the www.fifteensquared.net site.

How do I solve and blog a crossword?

From the 'solve' menu above select the crossword you wish to solve. Wait a few seconds and then the clues and an empty grid will appear on screen. Click twice on the grid or on any clue and a mini-editor will appear allowing you to enter and annotate the solution. Click 'save' or 'cancel' to move on to another clue. When you are all done click the 'ready to publish' button at the bottom of the screen and follow the easy (honest!) instructions for choosing how you would like your post published.

Can I just solve online without writing a blog?

Yes, you can use this program to solve as many puzzles as you like. No need to write up or post a blog entry if you do not need to. You can solve older puzzles too, click the 'more...' entry on the Solve menu.

I solved the puzzle on paper, how do I just write a blog?

From the 'blog' menu above select the crossword you wish to blog. Wait a few seconds and then the clues (and possibly answers) for that crossword will appear listed on the screen. Click on any clue and a mini-editor will appear allowing you to enter the answer and annotate the solution. Click 'save' and the editor will then display the next clue to be annotated. When you are all done click the 'ready to publish' button at the bottom of the screen and follow the easy (honest!) instructions for choosing how you would like your post published.

How to print a crossword

I like to solve cryptics on paper rather than online. Most crosswords are easily printed from the newspaper's websites but the Independent website does not seem to have a print facility. Select Independent from the 'print' menu to get a paper copy.

How do I save a part-finished crossword?

Just close your browser as normal. When you return the part-finished crossword will be available in the "Recent Posts" list on this page.

How do I change the legend following my posts?

The default legend at the foot of a new post is *anagram. You can customise this for your own posts by clicking preferences on the menu.
